Laws Relating to Animals on Shabbath and Yom Tov

VETERINARY TREATMENT

56. One is permitted to request a non-Jew to perform activities which are forbidden on Shabbath or Yom Tov even by the Torah, if one’s purpose is to save an animal from danger or to alleviate its suffering.

57.a. A dog which has been run over and is barking with pain may be treated in the manner referred to in paragraphs 55 and 56 above, but

57.b. one is not allowed to kill it.

58.a. It is prohibited to remove newly spawned fish from an aquarium to prevent the larger fish from eating them. spawned

58.b. Yet it is permissible to ask a non-Jew to transfer them fish (together with some water) to another receptacle containing water.
