Chapter 19
Specific Laws Relating to the Transfer of Objects from One Place to Another on Yom Tov, Where There Is No Eiruv*
1.a. It is not customary to make an eiruv chatzeiroth for Yom Tov alone.
1.b. Nevertheless, it is advisable to include Yom Tov in an eiruv chatzeiroth made before Shabbath to cover extended period. (See Chapter 17, paragraph 16.)
1.c. Having done so, one will be permitted to transfer an object from the house to the common courtyard or to another place covered by the eiruv, even if one does not need it for any purpose.
2.a. In a place where there is no eiruv, one may, on Yom Tov, transfer an article from one reshuth to another, or for a distance of four amoth or more in reshuth ha-rabbim, only if
1) one has, or thinks that one may perhaps have, some use, however small, for the article on that day and
2) that use is one commonly adopted by most people.
2.b. An article for which one has no need at all should not be taken outside on Yom Tov where there is no eiruv.
