Chapter 20

Categories of Muktzeh

Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.

MUKTZEH MEI CHAMATH CHESRON KIS

23.a. An object which would otherwise be muktech mei chamath chesron kis is not so if, before the commencement of Shabbath, one designates it for some permanent use that is permitted on Shabbath.

23.b. It is sufficient if this designation is in thought.

23.c. Accordingly, one is allowed to move mint stamps which, before Shabbath, one had in mind not to use for postage, but to add to one’s collection.

24. If an article which is muktseh mei chamath chesron kis breaks on Shabbath, it may not be moved on that day, even though its owner no longer minds if it is used for a purpose other than that originally intended.
