Categories of Muktzeh

Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.

BASIS LA-DAVAR HA-ASSUR

62. For the rules applicable to a burning candle which falls onto the table see Chapter 41, paragraph 17.

63. If, before Shabbath, one has placed on the table a tray containing not only the candlesticks, but also a non-muktzeh item of importance that one requires for Shabbath (as in paragraph 59 above), then

a. the tray, with the candlesticks still standing on it,* may be moved when

1) one needs the place occupied by the tray or

2) one wants to change or remove the tablecloth, but

b. it is forbidden to move the tray for the purpose of the candlesticks, for instance to prevent them from being damaged or lost.
