BASIS LA-DAVAR HA-ASSUR
77.a. 1) It is permissible to open the door of a car in order to take something out, so long as
a) opening the door does not turn on a light and
b) there is an eiruv or it is otherwise permissible to transfer objects out of the car.
2) a) It is even permitted to sit in the car, but
b) it is proper to refrain from doing so, since people generally regard this as being forbidden and it is advisable to avoid situations in which one can be suspected of doing something wrong.
77.b. 1) An ignition key which is not designed to serve any other purpose is considered to be a keli she-melachto le-issur and may not be moved, unless one wishes to use it for a permitted purpose or one needs the space which it occupies.
2) If, however, it also opens the car door or the baggage compartment, it is not a keli she-melachto le-issur and may be moved.
