Chomas Hadas / Epilogue – 145

As we saw before, Hashem made a covenant with the Jewish people to support Torah, and they all said blessed is he who supports Torah, and cured is he who does not support Torah. Since the evil inclination generally doesn’t succeed in tempting Torah scholars to stop their leaning, it channels its energy to deter working people from supporting the Torah scholars, thereby forcing them to detract from their learning. This is something very fearful, for our Sages warned us, If you see whole communities being uprooted, know that it is because they did not support Torah learners and teachers. Each person should be very wary of becoming lax in this area, as our whole religion is based on it.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
