Hilchos Chanukkah / Kindling the lights (i) – 16

1. One who will not be lighting that night and also has no one at home to light for him – when he sees Chanukkah lamps kindled by others, he recites She’asah nissimand, if it is the first night, he also recites Shehecheyanu. In the event that he does kindle lights on a subsequent night of Chanukkah, he nevertheless does not recite Shehecheyanu again (Shulchan Aruch 676:3).

2. If, on the first night, he did not kindle lights but his wife lit for him at home, he does not recite Shehecheyanu, even if he has the opportunity to light for himself on a subsequent night. This is so because his wife’s kindling at home is considered as though he kindled them himself (Mishnah Berurah 676:3:7).

“Moshe established for Yisrael, that they should inquire and teach the issue of the day, the halachos of Pesach on Pesach, the halachos of Atzeres on Atzeres, the halachos of chag on the chag” (Megilla 32)
