Hilchos Chanukkah / Kindling the lights (m) – 20

1. A person who, on Erev Shabbos, will be placing the Chanukkah lights near the entrance must see to it that there be some sort of barrier between the lights and the door, so that the lights not blow out from the opening and closing of the door (Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, 139).

2. On Motza’ei Shabbos (Saturday night) of Chanukkah, Havdala is recited first, before kindling the Chanukkah lights [although in the Beis Hakeneses (synagogue), the Chanukkah lights are kindled first, in order to publicize the miracle] (ibid.).
