Hilchos Pesach – 23 / Afikomen

1. The Afikomenis eaten at the end of the meal, just as the Pesach offering was eaten in a state of fullness. However, the person must have some appetite for this eating, and therefore one should not eat too much during the meal, for if one has no appetite to eat the Afikomen it is not an ideal fulfillment of the mitzvah (Shulchan Aruch and Mishnah Berurah 476).

2. But if the person is so full that he is disgusted with eating the Afikomenthen even if he forces himself to eat it, he did not fulfill his obligation whatsoever. Gross eating is not considered eating at all (ibid.).

“Moshe established for Yisrael, that they should inquire and teach the issue of the day, the halachos of Pesach on Pesach, the halachos of Atzeres on Atzeres, the halachos of chag on the chag” (Megilla 32)
