Hilchos Purim – 19 / The Purim Feast (e)

1. Purim is celebrated in some location on the fourteenth of Adar and in others on the fifteenth of Adar. However, a small feast and rejoicing should be celebrated in all locations on both days (Shulchan Aruch 695).

2. Some say that one should eat [food made of] seeds on Purim in commemoration of the seeds that Daniel and his friends ate in Babylon when they were in Nevuchadnezzar’s palace to avoid eating non-kosher food. Queen Esther, as well, ate seeds when she was taken to the palace of Achashveirosh (ibid.).

“Moshe established for Yisrael, that they should inquire and teach the issue of the day, the halachos of Pesach on Pesach, the halachos of Atzeres on Atzeres, the halachos of chag on the chag” (Megilla 32)
