Housekeeping and Domestic Facilities (563)

Chapter 23

Housekeeping and Use of Domestic Facilities on Shabbath and Yom Tov.

BELLS AND KNOCKERS

47. If one has mistakenly rung an electric bell and, while one is still pressing it, remembers that it is Shabbath, one may take one’s finger off the button, unless this would turn on or off a control light which is designed to show whether or not the bell is operating.

48.a. A bell which rings with the opening of a door should be removed from it before Shabbath or Yom Tov starts

48.b. If one has forgotten to remove it, one may, nonetheless, open the door on Shabbath or Yom Tov, as long as the bell is not electrically operated.
