Introduction / Negative Commandments 3-4 (11)

3. One who speaks lashon hara, transgresses the prohibition, Beware of a tzaraas affliction, to be very careful and to act, which a warning not to speak loshon hora, which is the cause of leprosy.

 

4. One who either speaks or listens to lashon hara, transgresses the prohibition, You shall not place a stumbling block before the blind, the speaker commits this sin in any event, with the more people listening to him, the greater his sin. Whereas the listener commits this sin if he is the only one present, if there are others there too, it is not definite that he has committed this sin.

 

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
