Introduction / Positive Commandments (18)

3. One who makes a comment that can be interpreted either as something positive or negative, if the speaker’s interpretation is negative, and the listener accepts it that way, they have both violated the commandment, You shall judge your fellow favorably, which is a commandment to judge others favorably.

4. One who speaks lashon hara and by doing so causes his fellow to lose his source of income, has violated the commandment, And your brother shall live with you, this is a commandment to help a fellow Jew with his livelihood, and surely not to cause harm to it.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
