Laws Derived from Isaiah: Speaking (728)

Chapter 29

Laws Derived from Isaiah: Running, Walking, Commerce, Measuring, Reading, Speaking

SPEAKING ON SHARBATH AND YOM TOV WITH THE OBJECT OF CONDUCTING EVERYDAY AFFAIRS

52.a. It follows from the contents of the previous paragraph that one must not on Shabbath tell a taxicab driver, that one even if he is not Jewish, to call at one’s house after Shabbath, unless one needs him for the purpose of a mitzva

52.b. One may, however, indirectly intimate to him on Shabbath one’s desire that he should present himself when Shabbath ends, for example,

1) by asking him whether he thinks he would be free to come after Shabbath or

2) by informing him that one would be happy if he were able to come after Shabbath.
