PROHIBITIONS UPON THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER ON SHABBATH

8. In addition, Rabbinical prohibitions were imposed upon the transfer of an object

a. from reshuth ha-rabbim to carmelith or vice versa,

b. from reshuth ha-yachid to carmelith or vice versa, or

c. a distance of four amoth or more within carmelith.

9.a. 1) One may transfer an object

a) from mekom petur to reshuth ha-rabbim, reshuth ha-yachid or carmelith or

b) from reshuth ha-rabbim, reshuth ha-yachid or carmelith to mekom petur.

2) However, one is not permitted to transfer an object from reshuth ha-yachid to reshuth ha-rabbim, or vice versa, through mekom petur, even if

a) one is standing in the mekom petur or

b) one puts the object down in the mekom petur before transferring it onward into the second reshuth.

9.b. 1) One may transfer an object, within a distance of four amoth, from one carmelith to another.

2) An example would be the transfer of an object from the side of a narrow country road into an adjacent, open field.
