Laws of Kneading on Shabbath (118)

Chapter 8

Laws of Kneading on Shabbath

2. When kneading is forbidden, it may not be done even immediately prior to the meal at which the food being prepared is to be eaten.

3.a. It follows from condition a in paragraph 1 above that it is permissible to knead one substance by itself.

3.b. Thus,

1) one may crush a banana for a small child with the handle of a fork (but not with the prongs, as explained in Chapter 6, paragraph 8), until it turns into a soft pulp, and

2) there are authorities who allow one to knead already baked crumbs, so long as one does not add water to them. (See also paragraph 22 below.)
