Chapter 5
Laws Relating to Squeezing Fruit on Shabbath and Yom Tov
5.a. By virtue of the rule in paragraph 3 above, a lemon may be squeezed onto sugar, white cheese and the like. (See Chapter 8, paragraph 14.)
5.b. 1) If some of the lemon pips fall into the sugar or cheese, they should not be removed alone, since this would contravene the prohibition against selection. (Compare Chapter 3, paragraph 18.)
2) One of two courses may be adopted.
a) It is preferable not to remove the pips at all, but to remove the food, leaving the pips behind.
b) Failing this, the pips should be removed together with some of the sugar or cheese.
3) It is important to note that it is forbidden to squeeze a lemon into an empty vessel, even if the intention is to mix the juice immediately with sugar or cheese.
