Parshas Emor
“From your dwelling places you shall bring two waving-breads, of two tenths (of an eiphah)!” (Vayikra 23:16-17)
It is a positive commandment that on Shavuos we must bring a leavened bread made from the new wheat, and it is called in the verse “A new flour-offering”, and consists of two loaves, as it says “From your dwelling places you shall bring two waving-breads, of two tenths (of an eiphah)!”.
Amongst the roots of this commandment are so that through this action we shall consider the great kindness that Hashem does with His creations to annually renew the grain supply so that there is food to eat. It is therefore fitting that we should offer to Him part of this grain to mention His great kindness before we derive any benefit from it. Once we have rendered ourselves fit for blessing by performing this action, our grain will be blessed and Hashem will be happy with us, as we know that because of His great goodness He wants only the good of His creations.
