Parshas Emor
“You shall sit in huts for seven days!” (Vayikra 23:42)
It is a positive commandment that we must live in a Succah for seven days, as it says “You shall sit in huts for seven days!”.
Amongst the roots of this commandment are that which is explicit in the verse itself, that we perform this commandment so that we will remember the great miracles which Hashem performed for our fathers when they went out of Egypt, when he covered them with the “clouds of honor” so that the sun would not injure them during the day, nor the cold at night. There are some who explain that Klal Yisrael made real huts in the dessert. By remembering the great miracles and wonders that Hashem did for us and our fathers, we will be more careful to fulfil His commandments, and be fitting to receive goodness from Him, which is His only desire.
This commandment applies in all places and at all times, to men and not to women.
