Mitzvah 440) To offer up all offerings in the chosen place (the temple)

Parshas Re’eh

“Only in the place which Hashem will choose…. There you shall offer up your offerings” (Devarim 12,14)

It is a positive commandment to offer up every offering in the temple and not outside.  About this it says, “Only in the place which Hashem will choose… There you shall offer up your offerings and there shall you do all that I have commanded you”.

Amongst the roots of the commandment: that when there is a special place in the world for offerings, and there is a persistence in seeking Hashem there, the place will be sanctified and the will of G-d will rest upon it and the abundance of His blessing will flow upon it constantly, and the hearts of people will fill with fear and be softened to the mention of Him and each person, when he sees it, will return from his evil ways and from the violence which is upon his hands. If all places can be suitable for offerings, it will not be so in all of them. Apart from this there are other wondrous secrets in it.

This commandment applies to men and to women, in every place and at every time, that is to say that one who, even nowadays, offers an offering outside the temple, transgresses this positive commandment but the intention is not that there is an obligation to offer an offering in the temple now that it has been destroyed.
