There are also many positive commandments that one violates by refraining to give a loan: (a) The positive commandment of ‘You shall walk in His ways’ (Devarim 28:9), which is a general commandment to follow the attributes of the Holy One, blessed is He. Since all His ways are good—as the Sages said, “Just as He is compassionate, so you be compassionate; just as He is gracious, so you be gracious” (Shabbos 133b)—a person who refrains from doing good without justification violates the commandment to walk in the ways of Hashem, may He be blessed.
