There are also many positive commandments that one violates by refraining to give a loan: (a) The positive commandment of ‘You shall walk in His ways’ (Devarim 28:9), which is a general commandment to follow the attributes of the Holy One, blessed is He. Since all His ways are good – as the Sages said, “Just as He is compassionate, so you be compassionate; just as He is gracious, so you be gracious” (Shabbos 133b) – a person who refrains from doing good without justification violates the commandment to walk in the ways of Hashem, may He be blessed.
