There are two reasons why people do not maintain enough observance of the mitzvah of kindness:
(a) because they do not know the details of this commandment, since it includes several categories – some for the poor and some for the rich; for the living and for the dead; and kindness with one’s body and kindness with one’s possessions. And each type has several sub-category and every sub-category has numerous details, as will be explained below.
(b) Because people do not know the magnitude of this virtue – how much good it does for the person who makes it their way, both during his lifetime and in the World to Come.
This book [Ahavas Chessed] will also explain both limits and details of the commandment itself, as well as its great benefits.
