There are people who do not idle away their time, but they are constantly looking for ways to make more money, even though they have enough for their sustenance. They do not learn Torah because they are constantly after a new deal. Indeed, this is folly, and is like someone who switches real coins with pieces of clay painted in gold. The verse says, ‘the Torah] is more valuable than pearls, and all your belongings cannot compare to it’, and the Yerushalmi explains that all the precious stones in the world are valueless compared to one Torah thought. How then, can a person spend his time running after worthless stones, when he could be running after Torah.
