The Laws of Blessings which apply during the Rainy Period (13)

1) One who is obligated to make the blessing of “Asher Yatzar” and sees lightning or hears thunder, should first make the blessing on the lightning or thunder and then follow on with “Asher Yatzar”. The reason for this is that if he does it in any other way, he will “lose” the blessings on the lightning and thunder. (Kaf Hachaim)

2) One who wakes up in the night and hears thunder or sees lightning and has no time to wash his hands and make the blessing, should think the blessing in his heart. Those who have the custom to make these blessings without mentioning Hashem’s Name or His Kingship, may make the blessing in this way without washing their hands. (ibid)
