The Laws of Yom Kippur (5)

1) It is a positive commandment to overindulge in meals and to eat and drink on the eve of Yom Kippur, and anyone who eats and drinks on this day with the intention of fulfilling this commandment has the merit as if he had fasted on this day. (Kitzur Shulchan Aruch 131)

2) The custom is that the parents bless their children before entering the synagogue on the eve of Yom Kippur, as the sanctity of the holy day has already started to take effect and the gates of heaven have opened. The parents pray that their children should be sealed for good life and that their hearts should be correct with the fear of heaven. (ibid)
