Every doctor needs to seek and research in the wisdom of medicine before he occupies himself with medicine and healing so that he will ensure that he does not replace correction and healing with destruction. One has to check seven times over so that one will not err with one’s imagination for by doing so he would be destroying a soul and Hashem will seek his blood. One should not occupy oneself with the profession of healing unless one is extremely expert in the wisdom of healing.
Unfortunately, in our sins, amongst many of the people of the earth there exists fake doctors who take on this profession as a means of earning a livelihood without ever having studied the wisdom of healing. Instead, a man who wishes to enter the healing profession, first makes sure to acquire a reputation as an expert doctor and he then works as a professional healer like a blind man feeling his way in the darkness, when he actually does not know his right side from his left side. Woe to healers of this sort, as about them it says “The best of the doctors go to Gehinnom!”, as they are the cause of an increase of spilling of blood in the world.
Even in the event that the healer is an expert doctor, when an illness which he does not recognize comes he should not be embarrassed to say that he does not recognize the illness and instead send the ill person to an expert in that type of illness, as one may not make a game out of a person’s blood.
