Chapter 18
Specific Laws Relating to the Transfer of Objects from One Place to Another on Shabbath, Where There Is No Eiruv
Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.
MISCELLANEOUS RULES CONCERNING
THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS
47.a. 1) Unfortunately, there are many people who, through ignorance, carry handkerchiefs about with them in a forbidden manner on Shabbath; it is therefore worth emphasizing that, as a rule, it is no less prohibited to carry a handkerchief into reshuth ha-rabbim than it is any other item.
2) It makes no difference whether the handkerchief is carried in the hand or in a pocket, and we have already seen (in paragraph 2 above) that it is equally forbidden for a woman to carry her handkerchief tucked under her watch-strap or bracelet, and (in paragraph 10 above) that one must not go into reshuth ha-rabbim with a handkerchief on one’s collar to protect it from perspiration.
