Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.

 

MISCELLANEOUS RULES CONCERNING

THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS

50. Subject to the contents of paragraph 51 below, the prohibitions against transferring objects from one reshuth to another, or within reshuth ha-rabbim or carmelith, apply also to carrying a child in one’s arms or pushing a child in a baby carriage (perambulator), whether by oneself or with the assistance of another person.

 

51.a. A sick child who knows how to walk by himself, but who finds it difficult under the circumstances, may be carried to the doctor even through a place which meets all the criteria of reshuth ha-rabbim. (See Chapter 17, para- graph 3.)

51.b. A sick child who does not yet know how to walk by himself may, if necessary, be carried through carmelith, but not through reshuth ha-rabbim.

51.c. Whenever it is permitted to carry a child through a place where the transfer of objects is otherwise not allowed,

1) one should make sure that the child does not have

This is the case with most locks, other than padlocks and Yale locks of the type which, on the inside, have only a knob or a lever but no keyhole.

anything in his hands or pockets, except items which might be necessary to avoid his being endangered, and

2) one may take him in a baby carriage.
