Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.
MISCELLANEOUS RULES CONCERNING
THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS
49.a. One must always take care, when using a key carried as part of a belt (as described in paragraph 48 above).
1) not to leave the key in the lock when opening a door away from oneself into a different reshuth and
2) that the “belt” is properly fastened or re-fastened before going in or out, or before moving away in reshuth ha-rabbim or carmelith.
49.b. 1) Where the distance between the outside edge of the lintel and the closed door is four tefachim or more and one wishes to remove the key one is wearing before using it, then one must not do so until one is standing under the lintel.
2) Even though the area beneath the lintel is reshuth ha-yachid, one must remember
a) not to leave the key in the lock when opening the door into the house and
b) to re-fasten the “belt” before going in.
49.c. Where the keyhole penetrates the door into the house from one side to the other,* the key may be inserted into it from the outside only while it is attached to the (even unfastened) “belt” still around one’s body.
