Categories of Muktzeh

Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.

MUKTZEH MEI-CHAMATH GUFO

42.a. 1) It is forbidden to move a piece of furniture or any other object which is broken, or part of which has become detached, if it can easily be repaired.

2) This is so despite the fact that it may still be fit for use.

3) The reason is that, if one were allowed to use it, one might come to repair it.

4) However, should it be in a position where it may injure someone, it may be moved aside.

42.b. Subject to the reservations mentioned in paragraph 41 above, it is permissible to move or use a piece of furniture or another object

1) which is broken and not easy to repair or

2) part of which has become detached and lost.
