General Principles of Muktzeh (517)

Chapter 22

General Principles Relating to Muktzeh on Shabbath and Yom Tov

OBJECTS MISTAKENLY THOUGHT TO BE MUKTZEH

17.a. An object which at the commencement of Shabbath one has no intention of using, because one erroneously believes it to be muktzeh, may be moved or even eaten on Shabbath when one realizes one’s mistake.

17.b. By way of contrast, an object which at the commencement of Shabbath one intended to use, erroneously believing it not to be muktzeh, may not be moved an Shabbath when one realizes one’s mistake, even after the reason for the object’s being muktzeh has ceased to exist.
