129 – Supporting a poor person / Part II, Chapter Twenty-One (c)

Included in the mitzvah of “You shall support him” is the obligation to assist a person who is beginning to fail financially by giving the fellow a job, or the like, so that he will be able to earn his livelihood. Everyone should be particular about this: when one needs to hire a worker or rent a tool, one should specifically choose a person who needs the job for his livelihood, and bear in mind] that it is to support the fellow. And even if that worker is slightly more expensive than others, we should trust in Hashem that by fulfilling the mitzvah of “You shall support him” no loss will occur to us and that Hashem will bless us with success in our handiwork.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
