1. One who reads the Megillah out of sequence does not fulfill his obligation. For example, if he read the first verse and then the third, skipping the second verse – he may not make up the second verse after reading the third verse. Rather, he must go back to the second verse and continue from there, repeating the third. The same applies when one skips one word or an entire paragraph; one must always read the Megillah in sequence(Shulchan AruchandMishnah Berurah690).
2. A person who listened to the Megillah reading inLashon Hakodesh(Hebrew), even if he does not understand the words at all, he does fulfill his obligation [after all, none of us understand the wordsachashteranim benei haramachimthat are written in the Megillah, yet we all fulfill our obligation](ibid.).
