Laws Relating to the Erection of Protective Shelters and of Partitions on Shabbath and Yom Tov
PARTITIONS ERECTED FOR THEIR HALACHIC EFFECT
31.a. A partition which does not comply with the conditions set out in paragraph 30c above is not effective from the point of view of the Halacha.
31.b. It may be erected on Shabbath or Yom Tov, provided
1) that one does not secure it at its upper and lower ends with the object of leaving it in position for a few days or more (as in paragraph 26 above) and
2) that there are no other prohibitions involved.
32. It is forbidden to open out a folding screen on Shabbath or Yom Tov with the intention that it should serve a halachic purpose (as explained in paragraph 30 above) unless it has been open to the extent of at least a tefach since before the beginning of Shabbath or Yom Tov (See also paragraph 34 below).
