Chapter 24
Laws Relating to the Erection of Protective Shelters and of Partitions on Shabbath and Yom Tov
PARTITIONS ERECTED FOR THEIR HALACHIC EFFECT
33.a. A partition which is attached at its upper and lower ends and has been spread to the extent of a tefach since before Shabbath or Yom Tov may be opened out altogether, even if it is intended to serve a halachic purpose (as explained in paragraph 30 above).
33.b. It is irrelevant whether the strip of a tefach
1) runs horizontally along the length of the partition and is a tefach wide from top to bottom or
2) runs vertically up the partition and is a tefach wide from side to side.
34.a. It is forbidden to unroll a partition with the intention that it should serve a halachic purpose (as explained in paragraph 30 above), unless it has been unrolled to the extent of a tefach or more since before the commencement of Shabbath or Yom Tov.
34.b. This is so even if the roll itself is a fefach or more in width. (Compare paragraph 7 above).
