388. Jealousy (3)

There is jealousy which is good, as Chazal say that “Jealousy of learned people increases wisdom!”, and a person should desire and make an effort to elevate himself in the levels of wisdom and service of Hashem like the holy ones in the land, and a person is obligated to say “When will my deeds reach those of my fathers, Avraham, Yitzchak and Ya’akov?”. If a person sees that his friend is being successful in his affairs, the jealousy which he should have is that he should say that everything is according to the deeds of a person as he eats the fruit of his actions. He should make his heart jealous in the fear of Hashem, and because of this he will make his deeds better to make pleasure for his Creator for this is the entire purpose of mankind.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
