389. Offerings

There are many well-known sayings of Chazal about the importance of reciting the paragraphs relevant to the offerings, and they said that this recital is very important for Hashem and that those people who recite these paragraphs are considered as if the holy temple has been rebuilt in their days and they have offered up all of the offerings. The holy Zohar explains at length the praise of one who studies the order of the service of the offerings and the make-up of the incense.

However, it would appear that one who reads them without concentration will not reach the aforementioned high levels. It is therefore correct and fitting to strengthen oneself in the study of these paragraphs with full concentration to give pleasure to our Creator who pays good reward to those who fulfil His will.

If a man is amongst those who Hashem has favored to be amongst the dwellers in the study hall, how good and pleasant it would be to fix times to study the laws of offerings in the Talmud or Rambam, as this gives pleasure to Hashem more than other studies. About this it says “Fortunate is one whose toil is in Torah and gives pleasure to his Creator!”.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
