PRODUCING MUSICAL AND OTHER SOUNDS ON SHABBATH OR YOM TOV
32. There is a general prohibition, the scope of which will become apparent below, on the production of a noise on Shabbath or Yom Tov, whether
a. by means of a musical instrument,
b. by means of any other instrument or,
c. in some cases, even with one’s hand.
33. For the purposes of the rules relating to this prohibition, a distinction must be made between
a. instruments or devices designed for producing a sound, such as musical instruments, bells, toys that emit noises, whistles and so forth, and
b. instruments or devices not designed for producing a sound.
