THE USE OF BABY CARRIAGES ON SHABBATH AND YOM TOV
44.a. It is prohibited
1) to convert a baby carriage into a stroller (pushchair), or vice versa, or
2) to fit a seat onto a baby carriage for an older child, if this is done by means of screws which are fastened tightly and are not meant to be frequently unscrewed and screwed down again.
44.b. If it is done by an arrangement or combination of springs, clips, hinges or slots, then it is allowed.
44.c. For the attachment and opening of hoods, canopies and sunshades on Shabbath or Yom Tov, see Chapter 24, paragraphs 9 and 13.
45.a. 1) It is forbidden to repair a defective baby carriage on Shabbath or Yom Tov.
2) This must be borne in mind if, for example,
a) a tire comes off a wheel,
b) a wheel drops off or
c) a spring becomes detached from its permanent position.
45.b. 1) A defective baby carriage which can easily be repaired is muktzeh if
a) the defect occurred on Shabbath or Yom Tov or
b) the baby carriage has not been used in its defective state.
2) It may not be used, nor indeed handled, since an might come to repair it on Shabbath or Yom Tov. (See, however, Chapter 22, paragraph 34)
