Inspired by a deep appreciation of the Sages’ teaching that “”Torah study is equal to them all,”” the “”Shtey-Halachot-Beyom”” organization was founded on the 4th of Nissan 5770 (March 19, 2010). Our aim then and now is to increase and enhance the study of Torah in all walks of life, mainly through e-mail. The organization was formed by a group of Torah scholars under the direction of Rabbi Yisrael Gans shlita, the rabbi of the Mattersdorf neighborhood in Jerusalem and one of the heads of the Kol Torah Yeshiva.
We began with sending out emails containing two halachos (laws) a day to just 600 subscribers. Within a short time the number of subscribers doubled, then tripled, and by now we have about 30,000 subscribers who come from the entire Jewish spectrum, in Israel and abroad. Every day, more and more subscribers who thirst for the word of God find their place in this wonderful organization — “Two-halachos-a-Day.”
As the subscriptions increased, it became apparent that there was a tremendous demand for other tracks of study, on other subjects. The “Shtey-Halachot-Beyom” organization rose to the challenge and with wondrous Heavenly assistance opened twenty different courses of study since then in every Torah field possible, tailored to every Jew, man or woman, everywhere, available at any time and for every level and style.
The “Shtey-Halachot-Beyom” organization set high standards for itself in the operation of learning tracks and in the way the subject matter is presented. To do this we invest a lot of energy and great sums of money, to choose those laws that relate to the daily life of every Jew, to consult with rabbis who clarify various customs and opinions, and to present the laws in the most clear and enlightening manner possible. All this is done in an effort to help every subscriber effortlessly learn and understand the laws.
The many warm responses we receive daily, continues to give us strength and encouragement to disseminate Torah study to ever widening circles of Jews. To this end, we started last year to offer courses of study in other languages: English, French and Spanish. In these tracks as well, we have spared no effort or funds to create high-quality, professional translations that are faithful to the original in both wording and Jewish law. There are now thousands of subscribers who can now learn the Halacha-laws daily, in their own language, with ease and clarity.
Not Only Email
At the same time, we also develop additional educational platforms, not necessarily by e-mail. In the past year, we have produced special tutorial materials to aid in the study of the laws of Shemiras Ha’lashon (Guarding one’s Tongue). These wall-hanging kits are distributed free of charge in all educational institutions throughout Israel. So far, thousands of kits have been distributed, and tens of thousands of students begin their day studying the laws of Shemiras Ha’lashon, in easy and clear wording.
In another project, “Mishnayot l’Tashbar,” we send out monthly annotated booklets to 1,400 children across the country, to help them study and memorize the Mishnah daily. At the end of each month the children have a chance of winning prizes for their diligence.
Other pocket-size booklets that we have recently produced include guides to Hilchot Shemittah (the Laws of Shmittah) and to guarding one’s tongue (an abridgement of the book Chafetz Chaim). An ongoing project now underway is publishing an annotated edition of the Rif (Rabbi Isaac Elfasi) culled from our daily track “Lessons on the Rif” that has thousands of subscribers.
As mentioned, our organization has long been not just about “Two Laws a day,” but about providing a wide variety of courses of study, at different levels, for every Jew and Jewess. Our hope and desire is to add even more tracks, and to add other languages, thus fulfilling the vision of the prophet Isaiah (11:9) —
“For the earth will be as filled with knowledge of Hashem as water covering the sea bed.”
