If a person says, everybody knows that one moment of Torah and good deeds in this world is better than all the enjoyment of the next world, and that it is evil and bitter to abandon Hashem, and transgressing the commandments is worse than all the evils of the world, and we all know what is the correct way, but my evil inclination is bad and tough as iron and I am unable to fight against it, he should know that this is not an excuse, and this argument will not and cannot save him from the great awesome day of judgment, as Hashem said “I created the evil inclination, I created Torah as the antidote, as the light contains in it will bring them back to the right path, and even if the evil inclination is as tough as iron, it will explode!”. The creation of the evil inclination was for the good of mankind, so that man can overcome it and receive reward. If a person would say, “I do not want the evil inclination or its reward!”, there is no purpose in his life, as before a man’s descent into this world he is like an angel who receive the goodness of Hashem as a free gift, and the only reason he was sent down into this world was in order to be able to benefit from the work of his own hands by overcoming the evil inclination, in which case he should be happy when he sees the evil inclination trying to persuade him to commit a sin or not do a good deed, and strengthen himself like a lion to conquer it, as he knows full well that Hashem wants to give him merits and increase his reward, as Chazal say that the reward for doing a good deed or holding oneself back from transgressing a commandment when the evil inclination is forcing him to do it, is more than the reward for one hundred good deeds when the evil inclination is not forcing him. No man can say that he was unable to control himself from doing a certain sin, or that he did not have the energy and strength to fulfil a certain positive commandment, for a person can do anything that he really wants, and if he really wants he could make his own deeds reach the level of the deeds of the forefathers, (Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov) and all the other righteous men, for they were also born of woman, and had the same evil inclination as we have. Even nowadays, in every generation there are righteous men.
