317. Service (1)

The service of Hashem must be complete and comprehensive, with fear, love and much enjoyment, with all of its details, and achievements. He should do everything that he can in order to fulfil each commandment in its correct fashion with the full concentration and intention. However, Hashem does not expect the impossible from His creations, and each person is only obligated to do that which he is capable of doing, and even if he performs an incomplete service of his Creator, he will receive reward for his service, as Hashem does not hold back the reward of any creature. He will nevertheless be punished for not having done everything that he could have, and because he did not force himself to achieve the maximum that he could have achieved, as Chazal say that on the day of judgment they ask a person why he did not occupy himself with the in depth learning of the Torah, with the secrets of the Torah and with the structure of the Holy Chariot (a reference to the vision at the beginning of Yechezkel).

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
