413. Washing

Washing one’s face every day is a Mitzvah because “Prepare to meet your G-d, O Yisrael!” and also for the honor of Hashem to respect His image, as Hashem made man in His image. However, one must be very careful to first dry one’s hands from their washing in order to remove the evil spirit which is on them. There is especially an obligation to wash at least one’s face, hands and feet with hot water on the day before Shabbos. It must be done specifically in this order, so one must start with one’s face, continue with the hands and afterwards wash the feet. It is especially good to wash one’s entire body in a bathhouse and also to immerse himself in a Mikveh (pool for ritual purification), and one must know that there are lofty secrets hidden in all of these actions and by performing these actions he is assured that he will merit to receive the additional soul, spirit and essence which come on Shabbos.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
