ARTICLES WHICH ARE WORN

25.a. In accordance with the contents of paragraph 24a and b above, a lenient attitude is taken to a man’s going out into reshuth ha-rabbim wearing

1) a handkerchief solely for decorative purposes in the top pocket of his jacket,

2) a feather stuck in his hatband or

3) the badge of a movement or organization or a medal or other sign of distinction on his lapel.

(But see paragraph 12 above.)

25.b. However,

1) a doctor should not go out into reshuth ha-rabbim with a name-tag pinned to his clothing and

2) a person should not go out wearing a ribbon or tag to identify his position or function, as in the case of a steward or usher,

since these are not, strictly speaking, decorative or ornamental in nature.

26. A woman is forbidden to go out wearing

a. a key attached to a bracelet, even if the bracelet is made of gold, or

b. a watch hanging from a chain around her neck, even if both the watch and the chain are made of gold.
