Chapter 18
Specific Laws Relating to the Transfer of Objects from One Place to Another on Shabbath, Where There Is No Eiruv
Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.
ARTICLES WHICH ARE WORN
29.a. 1) One may go out into reshuth ha-rabbim wearing any item which
a) is worn to serve the requirements of an article of clothing or
b) is normally attached to a particular article of clothing.
2) This is because, even if the item is of value in itself, it is considered to be ancillary to the garment.
29.b. Accordingly, one may go out into reshuth ha-rabbim wearing
1) a belt or suspenders (braces) to hold up one’s trousers,
2) garters or a garter belt (suspender-belt) to support one’s socks or stockings,
3) cuff links,
4) shirt-collar stiffeners,
5) a safety pin joining together two parts of a garment,
6) a pin or hair-grip to secure a head-scarf or yarmulke or
7) a necktie.
29.c. One is allowed to go out wearing a belt sewn onto a garment or threaded through its loops, even while it is unbuckled or untied and is hanging loose.
29.d. Similarly, one may go out wearing a support-girdle with the suspender straps dangling from it, even though they are not holding up one’s stockings.
29.e. It is, however, prohibited to go out wearing garters or a suspender-belt without socks or stockings.
29.f. See also paragraph 32 below.
