ARTICLES WHICH ARE WORN

40.a. 1) A button which has become so loose that one does not fasten it, for fear that it will come off, is not considered to be part of the garment.

2) As a result, it is better not to wear the garment on Shabbath when one intends to go out into reshuth ha-rabbim in a place where there is no eiruv.

40.b. From Chapter 15, paragraph 68a it is seen that on Shabbath and Yom Tov it is forbidden to detach a loose button, or to extract threads left after a button has fallen off.
