Chapter 18
Specific Laws Relating to the Transfer of Objects from One Place to Another on Shabbath, Where There Is No Eiruv
Specific laws relating to the transfer of objects from one place to another on Yom Tov are dealt with in Chapter 19.
MISCELLANEOUS RULES CONCERNING
THE TRANSFER OF OBJECTS
48.b.3) a) If one requires two keys, one should tie one at each end of the cord or elastic (by means of a bow, if it is Shabbath) and fasten the “belt” by hooking the teeth of the two keys into one another, so that they serve as a buckle.
b) Alternatively, one key can be used as a connection between two separate pieces of cord or elastic, while the second serves the function of a buckle, in the same manner as if it were the only key.
4) Where a key has no teeth which can be used in the above ways, the free end or ends of the cord or elastic can be attached to another part of the key, so long as it is the key which is holding the “belt” together.
48.c. One must, of course, not fasten a “key-belt” over one’s usual belt. (Compare paragraph 47b2 above.)
48.d. One need not raise any objection if a person goes into reshuth ha-rabbim wearing a silver or gold key made in the form of a brooch or tie-clip, as this is permitted by some authorities.
