Chapter 20
Categories of Muktzeh
Laws specifically relating to muktzeh on Yom Tov are explained in Chapter 21.
BASIS LA-DAVAR HA-ASSUR
73.a. A garment bag or portable wardrobe in which a muktzeh object, such as a garment made of a combination of wool and linen (as to which see paragraph 37 above) or a camera, is hanging is a basis la-davar ha-assur (if the other conditions set out in paragraphs 50 to 56 above are fulfilled).
73.b. It may not be moved unless other, more important items which are not muktzeh are also hanging in it.
74.a. A muktzeh object hanging on the door of a closet (cupboard) or of a house does not make the door a basis la-davar ha-assur and it may be opened and closed.
74.b. The reason is that the door is important as an integral part of the closet or the house, so that, in relation to the door, the muktzeh object is not regarded as an item of any consequence. (See paragraph 54 above)
