Housekeeping and Use of Domestic Facilities on Shabbath and Yom Tov.

CLEANING

5. It is permitted to spray water on the floor of a room, even if it consists of bare earth, to prevent the dust from rising (for instance during dancing on Simchath Torah).

6.a. Washing even a tiled floor is forbidden, whether one uses a rag or a squeegee (a non-absorbent, rubber- bladed wiper especially intended for the purpose).
6.b. 1) Where it is essential to wash the floor, it is possible to relax the strictness of the prohibition and permit the washing of tiled and other covered floors, provided that only a squeegee, and not a cloth, is used.
2) An example is the case of a hospital, where particular attention must be paid to cleanliness.
